For my birthday this year, Shawn and I decided we would do something different, so we went to New York! This was my first time actually spending more than a day in the city, and boy did we have a blast. Here's a very image heavy post of our mini-vacation.
Day 1: After a miserable air-condition-less bus ride,
BoltBus was nice enough to give us a free ride, which was awesome. Overall, it was a cheap and easy solution to travel from D.C. to N.Y.
That night, we decided to see a Broadway show for the first time. After browsing a list of amazing shows, we decided on
The Motherf**ker with the Hat with Chris Rock. Shawn and I are big fans of Chris Rock, so we were pretty giddy before the show, and it was well worth it. The show was absolutely hysterical!
Day 2: This is where our vegan food adventure really began. The first night, we opted for food that was close by to our hotel, The Paramount Hotel, which was half a block away from Times Square. But the next day, we braved our way through the New York subway system to
Curly's Vegetarian Lunch for some amazing comfort food.
Here is one image from the
Museum of Sex. I'll spare you from the rest, haha.
Okay, so I went a little shopping crazy during this trip. I mean, can you blame a girl when
Forever 21 is open until 1 a.m.?! This outfit was purchased while I was in the city.

You would think New Yorkers would be used to seeing crazy looking people, but Shawn still got a lot of attention for his hair, haha.
That evening, Shawn and I decided to go for a fancy vegan fine dining at
Candle 79. It was definitely a super romantic atmosphere (i.e. too dark to take any photos in). The food was absolutely delectable down to every last bite. And of course, I dressed up for the occasion.

FYI, lip stain is the best for eating food and kissing your man! That stuff does not come off!
After dinner, since Shawn and I are huge comedy fans, we went to
Ha! Comedy Club for some laughs.
While we were snapping photos, some guys decided to join my impromptu photo shoot, haha.
This guy totally made our night. He was being honest, so we gave him some money, haha.
Day 3: We had to catch the bus at 6:30 p.m., so we dedicated this day to food again. Yes, we are totally food addicts.
Pure Food and Wine was our first raw food restaurant experience. I was a little apprehensive about trying this place out since I've had a few strange experiences with raw food before. But this place turned out being my favorite dining experience of the whole trip! The food was light, fresh, flavorful and surprisingly filling.
After a brisk walk to digest a little, we popped into
Red Bamboo for a snack. Best strawberry milkshakes ever!

I was pretty sad to leave the city. After spending only three days in New York, it already felt like home. But this trip wasn't only for leisure. I won't give you all the details just yet, but change is a'coming.
And tomorrow is my birthday! Eek! I'm so exhausted from the weekend. I think I'll nap.
